De hoeveelheid handboeken over filosofie is overweldigend. Gelukkig hoef je er maar een paar te lezen en te leren om je wat op weg te helpen met leren filosoferen. In dit document vind je een zeer summier (dus geenszins uitputtend) overzicht van secundaire literatuur over (westerse) filosofie. Opgenomen zijn voornamelijk Nederlandstalige of in het Nederlands vertaalde werken. Filosofische teksten lees je liever in de grondtaal, bij teksten over filosofie is dat minder van belang.

Lees onderstaand fragment uit Kuhns Structure of scientific revolutions en beantwoord de vragen:

Textbooks, however, being pedagogic vehicles for the perpetuation of normal science, have to be rewritten in whole or in part whenever the language, problem-structure, or standards of normal science change. In short, they have to be rewritten in the aftermath of each scientific revolution, and, once rewritten, they inevitably disguise not only the role but the very existence of the revolutions that produced them. Unless he had personally experienced a revolution in his own lifetime, the historical sense either of the working scientist or the lay reader of textbook literature extends only to the outcome of the most recent revolutions in the field.[n]
